Sweet Hydrangea
Consider the flowers of the field!!
The hydrangea print is one that hits close to home for me, and every time I see the print, I am just so proud of my mom for capturing the detail in a way that brings to life the intricate design of this unique flower. The scripture written alongside these flowers comes from Matthew 6 and the passage is as follows:
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you— you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ Or ‘What shall we drink?’ Or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:25-34, NIV).

I would encourage you to really sit in this and think about the intricate detail of every flower. Think about the design of every single petal. Think about the unique colors that are found vibrantly revealing their glory for all to appreciate. Think about the fact that they neither labor nor spin, yet are clothed in glory. Why? Because their Maker delights in creating and preserving beautiful things and delights in meeting their most basic needs. If this is how he cares for the flowers, how much more will he care for you? “Those who seek the LORD lack no good thing” (Psalm 34:10). “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days” (Psalm 90:14). Consider the language of the psalmist. He is declaring the truth that this God is a God of rich blessing (Romans 10:12). He is proclaiming that this God is a well of living water who satisfies the thirsty soul (John 7:37-38, Proverbs 25:25). That this God is one who is proactive, not merely waiting to give the necessary provision of the day, but eagerly and willingly pouring it out on his children, because what good dad wouldn’t generously and willingly meet the needs of those most precious to him— of his creation, the ones who bare his image? What we think about God will absolutely define how we worship him. If this is true— if he really is a God who anticipates our needs, is proactively providing for them in abundant generosity, and in all of his wisdom, because he created us, knows how to meet those needs, shouldn’t the response be to trust him? Shouldn’t we relinquish our constant anxieties and pointless worries for the sake of the great delight that comes with acknowledging the past provisions of this good Father and eagerly anticipating the future ones? So, take hold of this power that you possess. Get to know the one who is loving you with a more faithful, steadfast, and unconditional love like you’ve never been loved before, and live in great freedom!! Consider the flowers of the field!!! “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.” (Psalm 9:10, NIV)
