Enjoying the Majesty of God on the Emerald Coast
Finding awe, humility, and joy in creation and the Creator
If you have a Bible nearby, flip to Psalm 104. If not, take a moment to look it up. This Psalm paints a vivid picture of God—His divine power, His role in creating and sustaining all things, and the vastness of His being.
It begins and ends with this powerful call to worship:
“Praise the LORD, my soul.”
David, the author of many Psalms, is described by God as a man after His own heart. Not because he was perfect—you only need to read a little Scripture to see his many failings—but because David lived in humility, confession, and adoration before the LORD.
When we come before God with humility, recognizing how small we are in comparison to Him, it opens our hearts to magnificent, free, joyful worship. It allows us to begin to grasp how incredible it is that He loves and cares for us.
“What is mankind that you are mindful of them?”
David reflects in Psalm 8:
“When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor” (Psalm 8:3–5).
Reader, in all His majesty, glory, power, and sovereignty—He cares for you.
No wonder Psalm 104 begins and ends with:
“Praise the LORD, my soul.”
The truth of that alone should move us to praise!
The Setting: The Emerald Coast
This reflection was inspired by the breathtaking beauty of Florida’s famous Emerald Coast—where some of the world’s most stunning beaches meet turquoise waters and sun-drenched skies.
Picture yourself sitting on the warm sand, gazing out toward the horizon with nothing but miles of blue ocean in front of you. Let the noise fade away.
If that isn’t quite stirring your soul, imagine being in the most remote place you’ve ever been. It’s night. There are no artificial lights—just darkness and stars. You tilt your head upward, eyes scanning the sky for constellations or shooting stars, your heart full of wonder like a child’s.
Start there.
Created and Sustained by a Knowable God
Scenes like these awaken something deep within us. They remind us that we are small—and yet we are known.
There is a God who created all of it. And not only is He powerful and majestic—He is knowable. He wants to be known by you.
Psalm 104:5 tells us that He “set the earth on its foundations.” And later:
“He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate—bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts. The trees of the LORD are well watered…” (Psalm 104:14–16).
He sustains all things through His overflowing, unending goodness.
“All creatures look to you to give them food at the proper time. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand they are satisfied with good things.” (Psalm 104:27–28)
He Is Worthy of Praise
So let’s say it together:
“Praise the LORD, my soul.”
Because He is worthy of all praise!
Take the time to know Him. Even in the busyness of life, in a success-driven, modern world, we make time for the things we value most.
Spend time with Him.
Seek Him.
Enjoy Him—forever.
